Arqiva Selects Thomson Broadcast to Support New DVB-T2 Network in the U.K.

PARIS — Sept. 10, 2010 —  Arqiva, the communications infrastructure and media services company, has selected Thomson Broadcast (formerly the transmission division of Grass Valley) for the high-power sites of its new DVB-T2 network for terrestrial high-definition services in the United Kingdom.

Thomson Broadcast is deploying, from 2010 to 2012, 16 high-power DCX Paragon MSDC-IOT transmitters with an output power up to 20 kW. The first on-air installation is set for later this year. As a long-time supplier to Arqiva, Thomson Broadcast is also upgrading the four already installed DVB-T DCX Paragon transmitters with new high-performance DVB-T2 Sirius exciters. The new generation of solid-state Elite GreenPower transmitters is also equipped with the Sirius open-platform exciter, which features real-time Digital Adaptive Pre-correction (DAP) for excellent stability and signal quality — regardless of variations in typical environmental conditions.

"With its open-exciter platform already compliant with all standards including DVB-T,

DVB-H, ATSC, ATSC Mobile DTV, FLO, and DAB, Thomson has again set the pace of innovation in the marketplace by supporting the DVB-T2 standard so as to meet any customer digital roll out requirements," said Nicolas Dallery, president of Thomson Broadcast. "In addition, as the only supplier in the broadcast industry to provide equipment from image capture through RF transmission, Thomson has leveraged years of experience and a broad product portfolio to develop a DVB-T2 network that includes the Thomson ViBE EM3000 MPEG-4 HD encoders and solid-state or tube DVB-T2 transmitters."
