RF SolutionsExpertise and Innovation

For more than a quarter of a century, Thomson has been a leader in customizing special RF amplifiers to accelerate particles and heat plasma. Thomson has designed and delivered these amplifier systems for gridded tubes, klystrons, gyrotrons, and inductive output tubes (IOTs).

Because of our familiarity with the challenges of high power and with frequencies of several hundred MHz, we undertake studies, plant engineering, and project assignments to create customer-specific solutions in continuous wave or pulsed operation, and with automatic tuning options.

Our offering is covering standalone RF amplifiers up to overall system solutions combined with power supplies, exciters, synthesizers, oscillators, LLRF, etc.

To ensure adequate sizing of components and auxiliary equipment, all systems are based on tolerance design. Protection and regulation of RF power under all kinds of Voltage Standing Wave Radio (VSWR) conditions is guaranteed. Working hand-in-hand with leading tube suppliers, systems are designed and executed for applications—ranging from acceleration of electrons to heavy ions, and high-power plasma heating—in synchrotrons, cyclotrons, ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH), and linear accelerators.
